Director General of the National Office for Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE), Abderrahim El Hafidi, received recently a high-level Somali delegation led by minister of Energy and Water Resources, Fawzia Mohamed Sheikh. The meeting    focused   on the exchange of experiences in the areas of electricity, drinking water and wastewater management, ONEE said Thursday in a release.

El Hafidi highlighted, on this occasion, the energy strategy led by the Kingdom and which focuses on the development of renewable energies as well as the advances made by Morocco in the electricity sector.

He also shed light on the achievements made by ONEE as the leading producer of drinking water in Morocco, a benchmark player for the generalization of access to drinking water in rural areas and an active participant in the area of wastewater management.

El Hadfidi stressed the willingness of ONEE to share its experience and know-how in the framework of South-South cooperation, the source added.

The Somali delegation visited the control room of the Bouregreg water treatment station, which is the largest drinking water production unit in Morocco with a production capacity of 9m3/second.

The Somali minister, who commended the Moroccan experience in the field of water and energy resources management, expressed the wish of her country to develop cooperation with ONEE.

To this end, it was agreed to set up a partnership framework aimed at providing technical assistance to the Somali side through the sharing of experiences, the exchange of visits by experts and capacity building in the areas electricity, drinking water and wastewater management.
